Orlando-based Baker Barrios Architects Inc. has established a limited Nashville presence, with the firm taking office space at Terrazzo in The Gulch.
The architecture company has designed, according to a release, “numerous buildings for Nashville-based health care companies across the nation,” including HCA and Community Health Systems. It also designed the CityView Apartments building (see here courtesy of Google Maps) on Rolling Mill Hill for Principal Real Estate Investors.
Baker Barrios has opened the small local office, in part, to expand its health care practice, along with its mixed-use, senior living and education practice groups.
Chris Saunders (on right in photo), senior associate, will serve as the office’s local contact, bringing more than 10 years of industry experience. He has managed medical projects for HCA in Florida, Texas, Virginia and Utah. Saunders is a graduate of the University of Florida and holds a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Cincinnati.
John Slavens (on left in photo), a principal in the firm with 30 years of experience in the design, construction and development of medical facilities, is in charge of the company’s health care practice and will spend significant time in Nashville, according to the release.
Additional staff will be added as warranted, the release notes.
“Joining the Nashville community offers us the opportunity to increase our footprint in the South, introduce our service-first, sustainable approach to new clients and work with some of the great companies and organizations throughout the region,” Tim Baker, CEO and principal of the firm, said in the release. “John and Chris are the right team at the right time to lead our expansion into Nashville.”
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Baker Barrios offers architecture, interior design, urban planning, landscape architecture and structural engineering services. The company also has a Tampa office.
The local office is located at 700 12th Ave. S., Suite 302.
