GALESBURG — As Marshalls moves closer to opening its doors in Galesburg, the retail chain has announced details of its May 16 grand opening.
The store at 2031 National Blvd. will kick off its presence in Galesburg with a ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, during which Marshalls will present a $10,000 donation to Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center.
Following the ribbon cutting, the store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for a day of giveaways and other grand opening festivities.
From then on, store hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
“Our newest store in Galesburg will offer an ever-changing selection of high-quality, on-trend and brand-name merchandise at the amazing prices that Marshalls is known for. Our buyers create a broad and exciting mix that offers exceptional values for the entire family, and we’re excited to bring this experience to a new neighborhood,” said Tim Miner, president of Marshalls. “With thousands of new items delivered to our stores every day, we know our shoppers will find values that are surprising and unexpected every time they shop.”
In addition to a variety of clothing, shoes, home decor, beauty, accessories and other merchandise, the 22,000-square-foot store in Galesburg will include “THE CUBE,” what Marshalls describes as a “hip, in-store boutique of contemporary fashions.”
The store plans to add approximately 60 full- and part-time jobs to the area, and the Galesburg location is still accepting applications, according to marketing specialist Katie Babb.
“When we open new stores, we look for areas with the right mix of demographics/characteristics, which can include families with children, home ownership, thriving retail areas, and areas where shoppers are fashion-conscious, yet value-conscious,” Babb said of the company’s decision to come to Galesburg. “We expect to be very successful in the Galesburg location.”
Marshalls has more than 1,000 stores in North America and is part of the TJX Companies Inc. family that also includes T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods and Homesense.
Currently, the closest Marshalls stores to Galesburg are in Peoria, the Quad Cities area, and West Burlington, Iowa.
The new store in Galesburg is part of the Galesburg Crossings development off North Henderson Street. The site has also seen a Harbor Freight, Five Below and PetSmart open in recent months.
