Maison Louis Vuitton has always had, at its heart, a love for travel. This spirit of exploration can now be brought into your homes, courtesy the brand’s first-ever range of scented candles, created by their master perfumer, Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud. From his laboratory in Les Fontaines Parfumées (the 17th-century perfumery located in the French city of Grasse, the world’s perfume capital), Cavallier-Belletrud created four signature fragrances—‘L’Air du Jardin’, ‘Île Blanche’, ‘Feuilles d’Or’ and ‘Dehors Il Neige’. Each is meant to evoke the outdoors—“like a house with windows open to the world”, he says. They are also a scented salute to the four seasons.

Channeling the Four Seasons

The ‘Dehors Il Neige’ hints at warmth in the middle of winter, opening with star anise, cinnamon, a hint of incense, and a final top note of raspberry. The poetically named ‘Feuilles d’Or’ (meaning ‘golden leaves’) evokes autumn, with its heart notes of patchouli, cedar and incense, and top notes of geranium and balsam. With ‘Île Blanche’, Cavallier-Belletrud summons summer, blending the scents of fresh tea, orange, jasmine and cardamom, topped with notes of citronella and vervain. The final offering—‘L’Air du Jardin’ is, perhaps, the most personal for Cavallier-Belletrud channelling, as it does, spring in Grasse, with its abundance of Provençal roses. Fragrances with heart notes of rose can be overpowering but in Cavallier-Belletrud’s hands, it takes on a lightness that sings of new beginnings.

Louis Vuitton Scented Candles

The candles are cast in ceramic containers designed by Marc Newson, whose involvement ensured that the candles were as stylish as they were functional. Each hand-painted wick rises to exactly quarter of an inch above the white wax, creating a subtle visual contrast, and the containers come with a gold-brushed lid that can also be used as a base for the candle. Since stylish journeying is at the heart of the brand, the candles come with leather handles for easy portability. For a taste of the outdoors from the comfort of your home, go on, make a wish.
