The arrival of warm weather always has us craving fresh and vibrant flowers in our home. And since Mother’s Day and graduation are right around the corner, we’re even more inclined to spend our days shopping for beautiful bouquets. This season, we encourage you to step away from the grocery store or chain flower mart and support local businesses, markets and farmers for your fresh flower needs. Here, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite garden shops and farmers’ markets, plus the most precious mobile flower shop you’ve ever seen.

Where to Find Fresh Flowers in Birmingham
FARMERS’ MARKETS
The Market at Pepper Place
The Magic City is filled with fresh produce, flowers and handcrafted goods this time of year, and local farmers’ markets are some of the best place to find them. Here is our guide to all of the Birmingham’s farmers’ markets, day by day.
Our favorite Saturday spot is the Market at Pepper Place, which boasts an impressive collection of local makers, farmers and more. You can always find bright, fresh blooms at the market, usually from Hepzibah Farms. While you’re there, make sure to stop by the newly opened FarmStand by Stone Hollow to shop their selection of flowers, local produce and locally made skincare goods. And if you want to spend your whole Saturday at Pepper Place, there’s plenty more to do, too.

Magic City Flower Market
Brand new to the city, the Magic City Flower Market is open to the public each Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This market fills local florist Holly Carlisle’s gorgeous Avondale studio, Rosegolden, with unique, locally grown flowers that are available both by the stem and in arrangements. Stop by each Monday to find a fresh bouquet for your home.

GARDEN SHOPS
Wild Things
At Wild Things, in Homewood, you can create stunning, bespoke floral arrangements for any upcoming event, including weddings. But while you can easily order your fresh flowers online, we suggest stopping by the storefront to explore their wide selection of darling home goods, coffee table books, beauty buys, gifts for the pup and more. Wild Things also offers floral workshops throughout the year, each centered around a seasonal theme and perfect for building a beautiful bouquet while learning more about the art of arrangement. Learn more about Wild Things here.

“I just want Wild Things to be a place where people can come and learn and be creative — a place for people to come and enjoy being themselves,” owner Carolyn Harbert says.

Leaf & Petal
With multiple local locations, including a dreamy — and relatively new — storefront on Crosshaven, Leaf & Petal is a local favorite for flowers, plants of all varieties, and home decor items. Peruse the lines of fresh and seasonal blooms, or find the perfect potted plant for your home. Either way, you’ll be impressed by their consistently beautiful and vast selection.

Shoppe
Another new addition to the Magic City floral scene is Shoppe, a 1920s home-turned-plant shop in Forest Park. After its opening, locals immediately fell in love with this garden shop that is about as Instagram-worthy as it gets. Here you can find numerous fresh flowers, greenery, home goods, gifts, and pots and planters. Learn more about Shoppe and its owners here.

THE MOBILE FLOWER MART
Wild Honey Flower Truck
We are borderline obsessed with Birmingham’s only mobile flower mart, the Wild Honey Flower Truck. This sweet floral business was born from one local couple’s love for a 1963 Ford Econoline pickup truck, and that love has grown into a truly unique way to fill your life with fresh flowers. You can design and build your own bouquets from a wide selection of beautiful blooms sold by the stem, and the staff also offers some incredible pre-made arrangements for those looking for a professional’s touch. Wild Honey pops up at numerous events around the city throughout the year, and you can check their schedule here. The truck can also be reserved for parties and is listed as a local AirBnB Experience. Learn more about Wild Honey Flower Truck here.
