Spruce Up Your Home With These 4 DIY Spring Projects!

With spring around the corner, it’s time to get your home spruced up for the new season.  While some will do deep cleaning to prepare for spring’s arrival, others may be looking for DIY projects to redecorate their home.  Try the following projects in your own home:

1.  Vintage Window Photo Frame.  This idea would fit right into any home featured on HGTV’s “Fixer Upper”.  Search for a vintage or salvaged window frame with three or more panes.  Purchase a glass or plexiglass insert if not already included.  Paint the frame if necessary, and sand it to give it an aged look.  Old, flaking paint adds charm and a vintage vibe, so only paint if you desire a specific color.  Attach clear picture corners to your favorite photos and put them on backwards so the sticky side adheres to the window.  If you have two identical window frames, hang side by side and use wooden letters to spell “family” or “love” vertically between the two frames.

2.  Shutter Wall Art.  Find an old shutter at a vintage or salvage store and use it as a backdrop for a clock, a wrought iron decoration, or a framed painting.  You can paint the shutter or keep it as is for an aged, shabby chic look.

3. Front Door Spring Wreath.  Using a floral foam wreath, moss, silver dollar eucalyptus, fresh sunflowers, and U-pins, you can create a wonderful addition to your outdoor home decor.  Soak the foam in water for an hour; then using the U-pins, cover the front and sides of the wreath with moss and pin sprigs of eucalyptus so they curve around the wreath while showing moss underneath.  Cut sunflower stems an inch from the flower and insert directly into the foam.  Secure with pins in a pleasing array around the wreath.
