This Dorm Room Decor Is Perfect for Small Spaces

Dorm living is all about making your home away from home feel, well, like home. That’s what our girl Margaux, a college sophomore, was looking to do in her campus abode. After hearing her small space woes, like little-to-no storage, a lack of seating, and sad-looking furniture, we couldn’t wait to help customize her dorm. Check out the before and afters, space-saving DIYs, and on-trend products below.

Margaux’s room needed some serious help with organization. Her tiny dresser just wasn’t going to cut it for all the clothes and accessories she packed. And those crates took up way too much floor area. Since there wasn’t a lot of room to grow, we went vertical with storage and helped up her furniture and lounge game with some perfect-for-her ideas.

The three DIYs — a new (dorm-friendly) closet, a cozy hangout zone under the bed, and up-leveled dorm furniture — helped with both organization and style. The lofted bed added seating and, more importantly, a spot to lounge in while reading or watching movies. The raised bed also made way for a new closet area to help contain *all* the things. And the furniture upgrades we made using temporary wallpaper put the finishing touches on the room. If you’re trying to customize your own dorm (or even your tiny studio), check out the step-by-steps below and then see our shoppable must-haves to get the look yourself.

When it comes to dorm living, lofted beds are where it’s at. Here, we made the most of this space by creating a cozy hangout zone for studying, show bingeing, and weekend lounging. All it took was a hammock, a TON of pillows, and some string lights for added ambiance. See how we made the magic happen.
