Gin has made the most incredible comeback over the last few years, no longer an old lady drink, but the drink of the cool kids in hip bars.
The range of gins out there is immense, and with London home to loads of small scale distilleries and legendary labels alike, there are a lot of options in our great city.
The beauty of gin is there is something for everyone, and there are experts out there to help you find your favourite.
Here are our favourite specialist gin bars in London – which one will you try first?
Mr Fogg’s Gin Parlour
1 New Row, Covent Garden
This place is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Not only are there over 150 gins, but the decor is eccentric to say the least.
Set up like a old fashioned parlour, you can have gin afternoon tea or a group gin tasting, or just enjoy the rare gins and botanicals on offer.
186 Portobello Road, Notting Hil
Located at 186 Portobello Road , as in famous the gin, this place is ‘a four-floor mecca for the discerning drinker’.
With two different bars, Gintonica and The Resting Room, The Distillery has a gin list so long you’ll get through a few drinks while reading it.
They also offer a gin blending experience, private dining and lodgings (in case you can’t handle your drink).
Unit 18, Ravenswood Industrial Estate, Shernall Street, Walthamstow
Bonus points for the name, the Mother’s Ruin bar is based in its own distillery, an old first world war munitions factory.
While they have a wide selection of gins they specialise in producing award winning fruit liquers. Sloe gin anyone?
Tooting Market, Tooting High Street
You’ll have a tough time getting a seat but it’s worth the struggle. What started as a small gin distillery in Tooting Market has evolved into a bar serving the handcrafted batch gin .
Best of all, you can get a ‘drink-in bottle’ with unlimited tonic for you and your friends to share – it’s £58 but you definitely get your money’s worth.
The Gin Bar
High Holborn, Holborn
With 500 gins and 30 tonics you can have over 14,000 different G&Ts and not have had the same drink twice. There’s something to aim for.
The copper-topped bar is a gorgeous centrepiece to the lavish room , or if the weather is good there’s a terrace for you to enjoy al fresco drinking and dining.
Golden Square, Soho
Classic Soho, this place pairs gin with urban art . Enjoy a G&T while gazing across installations by artists such as Mark Wallinger, Ben Allen and Jim Sharp.
If you’re not into art still go for the gin – the bartenders are great mixologists and can make you just about any cocktail you want.
Greenwich High Road, Greenwich
This Greenwich bar stocks 250 types of gin, and has Gin O’clock from 5-7pm with G&Ts for just £6. We’re sold.
It’s also a super pretty venue, with a flowery terrace, mezzanine and loft-style dining room.
The London Gin Club
Great Chapel Street, Soho

Made for the true gin connoisseur they have gin tasting menus – four or eight gins served on a tray, explained by the gin pros – perfect for your inner gin-geek.
If you’re just there to drink you’re in luck – all G&Ts are doubles, there are gin cocktails and ‘ginfusions’. *The bar is closed in June 2019 for renovations
214 Bermondsey Street, Bermondsey
This basement gin bar has the perfect ambiance for a few cocktails with friends, perfectly instagramable.
The menu has clever tasting notes and details of botanicals, plus there are four different gin flights to choose from – each has three different spirits. You’re encouraged to identify each gin using your nose, tastebuds and some notes, then you can tear open the accompanying envelope to see if you’ve guessed right.
